Social Protection/ safeguarding Policy
A safe community, our shared commitment
Our aim is to create a safe environment for all people, with special consideration for orphaned and vulnerable children.
We respect the dignity of each child. We promote awareness on abuse prevention, the possibilities of abuse and reporting abuse and work to assist the survivors of abuse in a holistic way.
Our Social Protection/Safeguarding policy is informed by international statutes i.e. child’s rights as enshrined by the United Nations Convention on the rights of a child (i.e. non-discrimination, the best interests of the child, participation, survival and development) and African Charter on the Rights and Welfare of the Child (ACRWC), as well as national laws including the Constitution of Zimbabwe, Children’s Act, Education Act, Guardianship of Minors Act, National Orphan Care Policy, Maintenance Act, Child Abduction Act, Immigration Act and Trafficking of Persons Act, amongst others.
Our executive board approved a Social Protection / Safeguarding Policy which includes the following:
1) Training for LLCG management and staff on safeguarding / social protection principles, followed up by signing a commitment to upholding child safeguarding principles.
2) Setting up a Safeguarding Committee, detailing child safeguarding procedures and implementation forms (incident reporting form, self-declaration form, referral form and recording of incident form) that will operationalise the child safeguarding policy.
3) Volunteers and contractors are to sign a commitment to child protection/safeguarding.
